Dad's Dictionary: YOU'LL WAKE THE BABY

Shhh, You'll Wake the Baby = "Settle down" or "Be quiet." This was something my Dad always said to youngsters who got a bit noisy in the house. Most of the time there wasn't a baby anywhere near. Shhh, you'll wake the baby was always a very gentle way of reminding children that they were in the house and if they wanted to horse around they should probably go outside. Shhh, you'll wake the baby was also said to barking dogs.

I wonde how many strange looks I'd get if I said that around my house.

LOL... I tried it tonight and got the funniest look from Peanut. "what baby?" she asked.
"it's just an expression" I told her. She was satisified with the explination, but you should have seen that look!
