Dad's Dictionary: OAT

(Today I shall begin a dictionary of words used by my Dad that were, I think, unique to him and his brothers. We grew up with these alternate words and knew their meanings. But to those outside the family, these words had to sound something like that special language that twins use or something. Anyway, here's is the first entry to Dad's Dictionary.)
_____________________

OAT = "hello," a greeting used when meeting a family member not seen in a while.

I'm curious to know if indeed these words were unique to him and the Kear family or if they were words used in the hills of Tennessee.
