My Grandparents

Emery & Beryl LeCrone
Lillie & Clifford Kear
Clayton, New Mexico, 1960

Notice that both my grandfathers have big bellies and bald heads. I have inherited the dominant physical legacy from both sides of my family! Genetics!

Behind my grandparents you can see a glimpse of the cherry tree that grew in Grandpa and Grandma Kear's yard. Cousins by the dozens used to climb that tree and eat the cherries. Anybody remember the cherry tree?

I thought baldness was a genetic trait that mothers passed down...

I always heard that it was passed down from the males in the family, but skipped a generation. This may seem true at first because both my grandfathers were bald and my father had a full head of hair til the day he died. However, at least one of my Dad's brothers has a full head of hair, and so does my brother. Go figure.

I remember that cherry tree. Picked and ate cherries until I thought I would get sick. And my Dad still has hair. It's thinning but he is not bald like Uncle Fred and Uncle Don. Great Grandma Kear (across the street LOL) had a cherry tree but the cherries were darker and sweeter.

Yep. Your dad and my dad had the hair among the brothers. In my family, Davy has the hair and I have the bald head.
